If you are looking for an alternative to formal Obedience Classes, then Family Dog Fun & Training is for YOU!

We focus on meeting the needs of pet dogs and their owners with functional training that you can apply to every-day living with your dog.

Julie Rodger has been a Veterinary Nurse since 1997, and has always had a special interest in dog behaviour and training, having run Puppy Classes for new dog owners during this time. She furthered her studies in 2007 and 2008 to gain a Certificate III in Dog Behaviour & Training.  Through Family Dog Fun & Training Julie is now able to extend her dog training and behavioural services to dogs of all ages.

"A lot of owners simply want a well-mannered dog that fits in with their life and their family.  THAT is what we want to achieve with Family Dog Fun & Training.  My dogs live in a family environment, so I understand that good canine manners and clear leadership are the cornerstones of sharing my life with my dogs".

Imagine life with your dog is a bit like an iced cake.  Commands such as Sit, Drop and Loose Lead Walking are the icing, but without a cake to place it on, with just the slightest pressure you can poke your finger right through it!  Clear leadership through your day-to-day living with your dog provides the solid foundations of your "cake". Think of the last time you asked your dog to come back to you from a major (or minor!) distraction.  How did you go?  Do you have to nag, or worse, plead with or raise your voice at your dog, or is there mutual respect and trust that allows you to live in harmony?

Family Dog Fun & Training goes beyond the basics of obedience exercises.  We focus on establishing you and your family as leaders of your dog.  A good leader is calm, clear and consistant, which in turns builds confidence and trust from your dog.  Who does your dog think is the leader of your family?  Does he think that the leadership is sometimes "up for grabs"?  Family Dog Fun & Training can show you simple interactions that can help your dog to understand their place in your life.
